Indonesian care-givers arrive in Japan
Updated
More Indonesians have arrived in Japan as care-giver recruits following the first batch of 205 earlier this month.
After being trained in aspects of Japanese life and culture and in care-giving work, the new arrivals will start working in September.
Their arrival represents Japan's first full-fledged acceptance of foreign workers in the medical and nursing-care fields, which face serious labour shortages.
Under a bilateral economic partnership agreement that took effect in July, Japan will accept 600 caregivers and 400 nurses in two years, with half of them arriving in the first year.
