Vanuatu goes to the polls
Updated
Vanuatu's residents are being urged to vote in Tuesday's national election.
The Vanuatu Daily Post reports a record number of candidates will contest the polls on Tuesday, which has been declared a public holiday to encourage voter participation.
Campaigning finished officially on Saturday night.
Principal Electoral Officer, Martin Tete, says the number of polling booths at each station has increased this year, to help make the process more efficient.
He also warned political parties against putting pressure on voters, saying all citizens have the right to vote in secret.
A new registration system is also expected to eliminate the problem of multiple voting.
More than 23,000 registered voters are expected in the capital Port Vila, alone.
