Guam, Northern Marianas target illegal turtle poaching
Updated
Rewards of $US1,000 are being offered for information on illegal turtle poaching on Guam and the Northern Marianas, in an attempt to put a halt to the practice.
The Pacific Daily News reports poaching is contributing to a decline in sea turtle numbers.
The thousand dollar rewards will be given for information leading to an arrest or conviction of poachers, or the rescue of live sea turtles.
Sea turtle conservation authorities on Guam say part of the problem is a lack of awareness of federal turtle protection laws.
