Philippines troops limit operations during Ramadan
Updated
The Philippine military says troops are pursuing limited operations against Muslim rebel leaders but are not hunting all insurgents during the holy month of Ramadan.
The military says their targets are Moro Islamic Liberation Front leaders Umbra Kato and Abdurahman Macapaar, who are accused of leading deadly raids against mostly Christian towns on Mindanao island in early August.
The attacks left more than 140 people dead and displaced 280,000 others.
Armed forces chief of staff General Alexander Yano says many members of the armed forces also practise Islam but law enforcement against criminals cannot be postponed.
