A new taskforce in Kiribati will investigate the creation of standards in the tourism and hospitality sector.

The taskforce, made up of mostly private sector tourism businesses, will discuss ways to implement a national standards or accreditation system.

The Kiribati National Tourism Office says tourism is the economic future of the country and the office is serious about improving tourism industry standards.

The Office says Kiribati's tourism industry has grown nearly seven per cent in the past year and has had double digit growth over the last five years.
