NZ university rejects academic's controversial comments
Updated
New Zealand's Massey University has distanced itself from a call by one of its professors to quarantine HIV-positive Pacific Islanders.
Professor Sitaleki Finau is on leave from the university while acting as director of health for Niue.
He outraged health organisations in the Pacific, when he suggested people with AIDS should be isolated, similar to the way Fiji quarantined its leprosy victims on a separate island.
Massey University has issued a statement saying Professor Finau's comments do not reflect the position of the university.
