Samoan officer charged with manslaughter in Solomons

Solomon Islands prosecutors say they've been cleared by Samoa to prosecute a Samoan officer involved in a fatal car crash, while serving with the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.
The 29-year-old officer has been charged with manslaughter, after the car he was allegedly driving struck and killed a nurse in Honiara two months ago.
The Solomons director of public prosecutions, Ronald Talasasa told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program, immunity for RAMSI members does not apply because the Samoan officer was not on duty at the time of the crash.
"What we are saying and arguing is that the officer perpetrated the act outside of his official duties and I cannot say more," Mr Talasasa said.
