US Senator John McCain has promised change will come to Washington as he accepted the Republican party's Presidential nomination.

Michael Rowland reports from the Republican convention John McCain has used his acceptance speech to reiterate the themes he's been pressing throughout this epi-presidential campaign.

He spoke of his long career in public service, both as a Navy pilot and in the US Congress, and he stressed his determination to bring change to Washington.

"Let me just offer an advanced warning to the old big spending, do nothing, me first, country second crowd - Change is coming," he said.

John McCain's speech marked the end of the Republican convention.

His focus now switches to what's expected to be an intense two month election campaign against Democratic opponent Barack Obama.
