Solomons police defend parents arrest

Solomon Islands police have defended their arrest of the elderly parents of a triple murder suspect.
The arrest of the 68-year-old man and his 55-year-old wife has sparked an outcry among Guadalcanal leaders.
The acting police commissioner, Peter Marshall, has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program a police officer has also been arrested and another is being questioned in connection with assisting the fugitive.
"The challenge we have, apart from apprehending these individuals, is striking a balance between not upsetting the local people who are victims and at the same time make sure that the law is upheld," he said.
"We have arrested the mother and father on this occassion, and as I say it wasn't a decision taken lightly and we have to let the courts determine the voracity of the evidence."
