Malaysia releases Chinese journalist
Updated
Malaysian authorities have released one of three figures they had detained under the Internal Security Act on friday.
Tan Hoon Cheng, a journalist for the Chinese-language Sin Chew Daily News newspaper, was released after she "cooperated with police".
Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar says Ms Tan is not a security threat and adds she was taken into custody because of threats to her security.
Ms Tan was thrust into the national spotlight after reporting on an outburst from a ruling party member who called ethnic Chinese "squatters."
Mr Albar denies the arrests which includes an opposition parliamentarian and a prominent blogger are aimed at suppressing dissent as the opposition tries to seize power.
