Emergency workers in the US state of Texas say they have rescued more than 1,900 people from their flooded homes after Hurricane Ike.
Thousands ignored warnings to evacuate and remained in their homes to face the storm.
Heavy rain on Sunday has slowed the search and rescue mission.
Texas homeland security director Steve McCraw says workers are going door to door on the island of Galveston looking for any victims.
There is no official death toll so far but rescue workers have recovered three bodies while it's believed another four people were killed in other parts of Texas and Louisiana.
Texas governor Rick Perry says people who want to come back to the devastated areas will be turned away.
In Houston, 80 kilometres inland, police have imposed a night time curfew for the next week.
