The Australian men's four by 100 metre - 34 point relay team have showed composure to win gold in world record time at the Paralympics in Beijing.

The team of Matthew Cowdrey, Peter Leek, Rick Pendleton and Ben Austin showed immense courage to comeback after the United States lead early on in the contest.

Pendleton fought his way into the lead in his breastroke leg, and the Australians never looked back from that point.

The relay team finished the race in world record time, smashing the previous mark by 11 seconds.

Elsewhere the women's wheelchair basketball won bronze after outclassing Japan 53-47 in their third place playoff.

Leisel Tesch top scored for the Gliders with 16 points, while Tanya Gauci wasn't far behind with 10.

Australia's wheelchair rugby team will play for a gold medal against the United States, after downing Canada in extra time 41-40.
