Twelve French Polynesia candidates challenge for French senate role

In French Polynesia, 12 candidates have been officially registered as part of next week's French Senate elections.

The online Oceania Flash newsagency reports French Polynesia will for the first time be represented in the French Upper House by two members, instead of one .

The Senate elections will be held on the 21 September.

77-year-old former President Gaston Flosse is French Polynesia's incumbent Senator.
