China says 22 companies have tainted baby milk
Updated
A chemical blamed for killing two infants in China has been discovered in baby milk products from 22 companies nationwide.
The state run CCTV had earlier reported 69 different brands were affected.
But a later transcript posted online indicated it was referring to the number of batches that had been tested.
CCTV reports the government has ordered a halt on the sale of all of the brands tainted with the chemical melamine.
The chemical is normally used to make plastics and glue.
More than 1200 infants across several provinces have suffered kidney stones and other problems from the contaminated milk.
So far the blame had focussed on the Sanlu brand.
Following a nationwide investigation, the additional tainted brands appear to have been detected.
