The Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission is launching a new disaster risk management website for the Pacific region.

SOPAC says the website PacificDisaster.net will provide online and interactive support and advice for regional disaster management teams.

The site has taken two years to develop at a cost of more than $US100,000.

SOPAC's Risk Adviser, Noud Leenders has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program it will also help the media, and general public with the latest information on cyclone warnings, tsunami alerts and volcano hazard advisories.

"In designing this, we've made sure there are many ways of getting to the information that you are after, simple searches, advanced searches, but also going by subject to end up at the information that you require," he said.

"This is also done to village level evacuation plan that you may want to look for, or a guideline on how to create an evacuation guideline for your particular village."
