The Papua New Guinea government is to contribute more than $US96,000 for disabled sport in PNG.

It follows the country's first Paralympic medal.

22 year old Francis Kompaon won silver at the Beijing paralympics in the 100 metre sprint final on Monday.

Sir Michael has praised Kompoan for overcoming adversity to represent his country and has also promised to fund his training for the London 2012 games.

"I will be making a contribution for him personally and a total of 250,000 kina for this type of sports," he said.
