Darwin emergency volunteers to help with Alice Springs storm clean-up
Updated
Emergency service volunteers from Darwin will be flown into Alice Springs in Central Australia to help clean-up damage after Monday's severe storms.
Winds of up to 120 kilometres an hour hit the town for about 20 minutes, bringing down powerlines and trees.
Emergency services received about 50 calls for assistance.
The regional manager Rob Romaldi says the Darwin volunteers will give crews in Alice Springs a well-earned break.
"We've been fairly extensively in retarping some severely damaged roofs, securing a lot of fallen trees around town and in some of the rural areas, my volunteers should be absolutely commended for what they've done, over the past 24 hours," he said.
