Victims of child sex abuse on Pitcairn Island will be able to apply for compensation.

Eight men were convicted of a string of sex attacks after abuse on the small Pacific island was revealed in 1999.

The men faced dozens of charges including the rape and indecent assault of girls as young as 12.

Britain's Foreign Office Minister Gillian Merron says nothing can take away the pain of what happened to the women.

But she says compensation payments will give some recognition of their suffering.
