China agrees to land reforms for farmers
Updated
China's Communist Party leaders have agreed on a package of rural reforms that could shape the country's economic policy over the coming years.
The Xinhua news agency says a four-day enclave, attended by President Hu Jintao, had approved "major issues" on reform.
The outcome is thought to include a provision for farmers to have more power to transfer or rent out their land.
Leaders have said they want to lift the income of China's 800 million peasant farmers to boost growth, and ease social unrest.
