Fiji asks for international assistance

Updated January 15, 2009 16:47:11

Fiji's interim government has asked for assistance from its international neighbours to help recover from a week of flooding. So far there has been 11 confirmed deaths, with an estimated nine thousand people now living in emergency accommodation. As well there are reports of food shortages, with Fiji's emergency workers, and other NGO's, struggling to meet the needs of communities. At the same time farmers are facing a dim future, with sugar can crops across the country destroyed.
