Fiji's interim attorney general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says he will be attending the Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Port Moresby, in place of the interim prime minister. The meeting is expected to discuss whether Fiji will be suspended from the group.

Presenter: Geraldine Coutts
Speaker: Aiyaz-Sayed Khaiyum, Fiji's Attorney General

KHAIYUM: The Prime Minister as you know is not in Suva, he's out in one of the islands in the second largest island. There's been extensive damage around Fiji, because of the floods. He'll be coming back to the capital late tonight. Should there be any new developments in respect of the current status-quo then obviously you'll be informed of it and we'll inform the forum and the chair of the forum. But as it stands, he won't be able to attend, given the very numerous matters he has to attend to over here in Fiji and I will be attending together with the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

COUTTS: So the Commodore won't consider the plea by Sir Michael Somare, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea to reconsider?

KHAIYUM: Like I said, at the moment we cannot communicate with him. He will return to the capital late tonight and should there be any changes or any talks between him and Sir Michael, they will take place tomorrow.
