First anniversary of apology to Australian Aborigines
Updated
The Aboriginal flag has been flying on Australian government buildings today, beside the Australian flag, as the nation marks a year since the Prime Minister said sorry to the Stolen Generations. It came some 30 years after the end of the officially sanctioned policy of the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their parents. The symbolism was enormous, as Kevin Rudd rose in the national Parliament a year ago and spoke of the searing pain, hurt and humiliation, and the sheer brutality of the act of separating a mother from her child.
Presenter: Linda Mottram
