Unions oppose proposal to cut working hours at New Caledonia's biggest

Unions representing workers at New Caledonia's largest nickel mine say a proposal to cut working hours by 10 per cent is premature. Last week, SLN announced it will cut production by 20 per cent in the face of falling commodity prices and demand , and warned that working hours would have to be cut accordingly. However, union leaders are refusing to accept the reduction, saying it should only be implemented as a last resort.
