Pacific Islanders in New Zealand could be particularly hard hit by the global economic downturn. That's according to the interim chair of the Pacific Island Affairs Ministerial Advisory Council, Taima Fagaloa. The New Zealand government is holding a national summit to tackle the problem of job losses. Manufacturing and retail sectors have suffered falls in the number of jobs of more than 20 per cent in the past year. Taima Fagaloa says because Pacific people tend to be concentrated in those low-skill areas, they're likely to be facing disproportionate job losses and need re-training.
