Fiji's interim attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaium, has disputed claims by a leading economist about the state of the country's economy. University of the South Pacific economist Doctor Waden Narsey told this program yesterday that Fiji's economy has suffered since the 2006 military coup. He was critical of the sale of British Petroleum's Pacific operations to Fijian Holdings. He claims the deal is being financed by a loan from the Fiji National Provident Fund, which runs the country's superannuation scheme. Speaking on Pacific Beat, Professor Narsey told Geraldine Coutts that Fiji's economy was already doing poorly two years ago when the military stepped in.
