NGO rejects criticism over failure to nominate women MPs to Parliament
Updated
The President of the Papua New Guinea NGO National Women in Politics says accusations by Dame Carol Kidu that her organisation is responsible for derailing the nomination of three women to Parliament is wrong after repeated efforts last week to get the motion passed failed, with the Government failing to get enough MPs in the House at one time to vote. The motion's main supporter and only woman MP, Dame Carol Kidu, said she felt humiliated and blamed a misinformation campaign run by the Women in Politics group. Women in Politics President Maria Ibai Hayes says she fully supports the motion, but thinks the male members of Parliament needed more time to fully understand what they are trying to achieve.
