New Caledonia housing crunch highlights rich and poor divide

In New Caledonia, an increasing number of lower income earners are struggling to find affordable accomodation in the capital with high demand driving prices up, pushing many families into the suburbs and in some cases squats in the surrounding countryside. While one part of the population scrambles to find housing within their means, demand for luxury properties in the city's more affluent areas is higher than ever.
