NZ Samoan MP wants more openness about sex after newborn dumped
Updated
Following an incident in which a woman on a flight from Samoa to New Zealand gave birth in the plane's toilets and dumped the baby in the bin, a New Zealand MP of Samoan descent wants Samoan families to be more open about sex, to prevent young women getting rid of their newborns. The opposition Labour Party MP says many Samoan families feel a strong sense of shame if unmarried women get pregnant, and this can lead to the women panicking and making bad choices.
