PNG landowners earn court victory over LNG project consulatations

The Port Moresby National Court has ordered that no legally binding agreements regarding a proposed $11 billion dollar Liquid Natural Gas project should be reached until proper procedures stipulated under PNG laws have been met. The ruling is something of a victory for landowners, who complained they had not been properly consulted or identified so that the benefits from the project could be properly shared. The court has also decided that a meeting being attended by hundreds of landowners in East New Britain Province, must not make any resolutions without the landowners who sought the court order.
