Solomons campaign for women's parliamentary seats
Updated
Women in Solomon Islands are hoping to have representation in the country's parliament by next year's general elections. Since independence nearly 31 years ago, Solomon Islands has had only one female elected to parliament. But on Tuesday last week, a campaign was launched to reserve 10 seats in Parliament for women. The campaign proposes that 10 seats be added to the existing 50-seat Parliament, with elected women representing 9 provinces and Honiara city.
