Palau President calls for Fiji compromise
Updated
Fiji may not be represented at next week's Pacific Islands Forum in the northern Australian city of Cairns, but it's certain that Frank Bainimarama's military-led regime won't be very far from the leaders' minds. While climate change and trade are also certain to be discussed, it would seem differing attitudes will also be put forward when it comes to Fiji.
Palua's President Johnson Toribiong won't be attending - he will be meeting with members of the US Congress. His deputy, Kerai Mariur, will be representing the island state. The Forum earlier this year suspended Fiji from the body, but President Toribiong believes there is still the need for compromise.
