Ancient species found beneath Antarctic ice
Updated
Australian scientists have uncovered a diverse and abundant seabed community in the darkest depths of Antarctic waters. Researchers from Geoscience Australia, working in collaboration with the Australian Antarctic Division, studied sediment beneath a giant ice sheet. They discovered evidence of ancient species which gradually replaced each other over thousands of years. Scientists say the findings will help to understand the potential effects of climate change on Antarctica.
