Peak Pacific media association on wane: Editor
Updated
The fate of the Pacific Islands News Association Secretariat is to be decided at Wednesday's annual general meeting, currently underway in Vanuatu. The region's media organisations are eagerly waiting to see if the PINA board will submit to growing pressure to have the secretariat removed from Fiji.
Since Fiji's military government began censoring the media after the abrogation of the constitution in April, PINA and the Board have been asked by some to consider a new home for the office. The wrong move - whatever that may be - could spell a serious blow to PINA's over-arching role in the region. One media figure who was actually barred from the conference was the editor of the Vanuatu Post, Mark Neill-Jones.
