Call for repatriation of Solomons conflict remains
Updated
The premier of Solomon Islands' Guadalcanal Province says the remains of people killed during the five years of ethnic conflict in the country must be handed back to their relatives. Premier Stephen Panga says this is a pre-requisite to any meaningful reconciliation in the country. The ethnic conflict - predominantly between the people of Guadalcanal and Malaita provinces - ended with the intervention of the Regional Assistance Mission, RAMSI, in July 2003.
Mr Panga says the national government and RAMSI are helping his province implement the program which involves former militants from both Guadalcanal and Malaita.
