Solomons Police Commissioner dismisses violent crimes perception

The Melanesian countries and in particular Papua New Guinea followed by Solomon Islands, have often been singled out by observers as the most crime-ridden and unsafe in the region. In Solomon Islands, the Regional Assistance Mission led by Australia and New Zealand has been working closely with the local police to improve the law and order situation following 5 years of ethnic conflict which ended in 2003.
