Fresh warning to Pacific states on swine flu

Updated August 25, 2009 07:06:26

The World Health Organisation is urging doctors in the region to treat H1N1 flu sufferers as early as possible. According to the WHO up to two thirds of the world's population can expect to get swine flu at some stage. Infectious disease epidemiologist Dr Jacob Kool says there's been a tendency for doctors to wait too long before giving Tamiflu to patients. He says the high rate of risk factors in the Pacific such as diabetes and obesity makes it necessary to treat flu-like symptoms early.
