Former Fiji diplomat urges international attitude change
Updated
One of the most experienced former Fijiian diplomats and public servants has joined the call for Australia and New Zealand to change their attitude towards the island nation. In 1987 Peter Thomson was the Permanent Secretary to Fiji's Governor General, and also served as the country's Consul General in Sydney. He has written what is described as the definitive book on the 1987 coup, titled "Kava in the Blood" and now works as a private consultant on Pacific Affairs.
Mr Thomson spoke on the ABC's Radio National program Counterpoint, in an interview with Paul Comrie-Thomson, and started with his memories about how he first came to hear about the 1987 coup.
