El Nino catches Pacific climate watchers off guard

Nations in the southern and western Pacific look set to suffer unpredictable weather over coming months. Climate scientists say they've been caught off guard by an El Nino weather system, which is unlike any other observed to date. The confusion stems from unusually warm surface water temperatures.
