New model for Indigenous affairs representation
Updated
Professor James Anaya, the U-N's Special Rapporteur on the rights and freedoms of indigenous peoples says Aborigines and Torres Strait islanders are experiencing entrenched racism. While Professor Anaya was detailing his concerns about the aboriginal intervention in Australia's Northern Territory, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Social Justice Commissioner Tom Calma was in Canberra delivering a new model for indigenous Australian representation to the federal government. Mr Calma's plan comes five years after the disbanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission.
