Samoan road switch opponents disappointed by court ruling

The Samoan Supreme Court has confirmed that in just over a week, drivers will be switching from the right hand side of the road to the left. Judge Vui Clarence Nelson told a packed courtroom on Friday there was insufficient evidence that the switch would lead to a rise in road accidents. Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele says roads will be safe after the switch. The court ruling is a severe disappointment for People Against Switching Sides, the group that brought the Supreme Court action. Its objection to the switch was brought on constitutional grounds.. and was backed by around one in six Samoans.
