Australian Federal Police to return to PNG
Updated
Australian Police officers are returning to Papua New Guinea under a new PNG-Australia Policing Partnership program. It's intended to get Australian federal police officers to assist in improving the administration and management of the PNG constabulary. PNG Police Commissioner Gari Baki says this program is different from the scrapped controversial Enhanced Co-operation program, where Australian police were deployed to fight crime in Port Moresby. In 2005, PNG's Supreme Court ruled that the ECP program was unconstitutional - and over 150 Australian officers had to be withdrawn.
