CNMI trying to rescue typhoon-hit islanders
Updated
Twelve villagers on two remote islands in the Northern Marianas are still waiting to be rescued, several days after a typhoon swept through the area, demolishing most of the infrastructure. The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands government is still trying to organise transport to evacuate the eight people on Almaggen Island and the four on Agrihan. One family with a newborn baby were rescued by a US Navy helicopter and taken to Saipan just before typhoon Choi-Wan hit. Juan Camacho, of the CNMI Emergency Management Office, tells Bruce Hill that authorities were trying hard to reach the remaining islanders, but it's taking a lot of time.
