Sharks find sanctuary in Palau
Updated
President Johnson Toribiong of Palau has announced from the United Nations in New York that Palau's waters are now recognised as a national shark sanctuary. The protected sanctuary will put an end to all commercial shark fishing in Palau's waters, and gives protection for sharks to live and reproduce in the more than 200,000 square miles of ocean.
But the country's ability to defend its exclusive economic zone from foreign fishing vessels is a major challenge.
