Air Niugini denies reports of underwear theft

The head of Air Niugini in Papua New Guinea has been dealing with an unusual attack on its public image. Four women have anonymously told newspaper reporters that several pairs of underwear were stolen from their luggage on domestic flights from the capital, Port Moresby. The story has appeared in the media in Papua New Guinea, and as far afield as New Zealand and Australia.

However, the airline's chief executive, Wasanta Kumarasiri, says that nobody has contacted the airline about the issue, and he suspects it might be an attempt by a competitor to generate some bad publicity.
