Broadcasters in Fiji, New Caledonia sign cooperation deal

There has been little in the way of good news for Fijian media outlets in recent months. Just last week, three of the country's broadcasters were temporarily suspended from the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association because the military regime's refusal to hold early elections. That news came just days after the Reporters Without Borders released its annual report on press freedom, showing Fiji had plummeted 73 places to rank 152nd. But, despite the ongoing restrictions on reporting, Fiji Television has just finalised a co-operation agreement with a New Caledonian television station.
