Australian navy mission to Solomons defuses munitions
Updated
School children in the Solomon Islands have been found playing with unexploded weapons left from World War II. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence. Over the decades, many children have found and played with potentially-deadly unexploded devices left behind after heavy fighting between Allied and Japanese forces during World War II.
The Australian Defence Force has been working in the Solomon Islands to find and dispose of these unexploded weapons. The Operation Render Safe deployment removed 15 objects from the waters off the Shortland Islands group near Bougainville.
