Australia's decision to expell Fiji's acting High Commissioner in Canberra, as a response to Fiji's expulsion of Australia's High Commissioner, has been described as appropriate. Jenny Hayward-Jones is the Director of the Melanesia Program at the Lowy Institute for International Affairs, and is a former Australian diplomat. Ms Hayward-Jones told Pacific Correspondent Campbell Cooney that while Australia could have responded with trade, or sporting sanctions, the decision to expel Fiji's High Commissioner means the door has been left open to future dialogue, but it's unlikely to begin soon.
