Sustainability theme for Vanuatu National Arts Festival
Updated
Vanuatu's capital, Port Vila, is the hub of Pacific cultural activity this week as the National Arts Festival kicked off on Monday. It's a showcase of traditional culture, songs and dances, custom and traditional crafts which ends this Friday. The theme this year is cultural diversity toward sustainable economy.
The event, which is marking its third anniversary this year, is an opportunity for visitors and participants to reflect on the importance of striking a balance between traditional culture and western-style development. Radio Australia's Isabelle Genoux caught-up with Marcelin Ambong, the director of Vanuatu Cultural Centre and Chairman of Vanuatu National Arts Festival, to discuss the challenges facing traditional culture.
