Mobile phones leapfrog old banking, trade ways in Pacific

The Pacific has one of the highest uptakes of mobile phones per capita for practical reasons as they prove to be a powerful tool for the delivery of basic financial services to lower income housholds. Money transfer, sending international remittances and even saving through mobile phone networks are increasingly popular mobile transactions. On a more practical level market gardeners are often saved needless trips to maket by calling ahead on their mobile phones to see if roads are clear and indeed if the market is open.
A new report looking at mobile phone usage "Building a Mobile Money Distribution Network in PNG" has just been released.
