China push for greater peacekeeping role

China continues to win praise as it aims to expand an already significant role it plays in United Nations peacekeeping.
Last week, Beijing hosted what has been described as an unprecedented conference on international peacekeeping. China already has a well-resourced peacekeeping training facility outside Beijing complete with a state-of-the-art language laboratory.
It comes as the UN tries to build more support for peacekeeping among developed nations that have left peacekeeping to developing nations. In the Pacific, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Palau, Samoa and Vanuatu all contribute to UN missions.
